How to Back up & Restore Registry?

Hello Guys,

Registry is the most important point of an operating system and very critical too, just by changing a single value you may face and error that you have never seen it.

Therefore today I want to share my knowledge about backing up and restoring any registry part.

Follow the steps.

How to Back up registry

Go to RUN by pressing Windows Key + R.

Type Regedit in RUN and hit enter or press OK.

On the left side of your screen you will see 5 folders as following.

Now navigate to any part you want to back up, for example I am going to back up the START PAGE in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN.
Now Right Click on MAIN and choose Export.

Choose the Place you want to save it from the left side of the box, give it a name any name for example I have given it a name Registry First Back up and click on save.

How to Restore registry

Now where ever you have Saved the backed up file navigate to that place.

Right Click on the file and select Merge.

Now click YES for restoring to take place and NO to cancel the restoring process.

If clicked YES and you see below message then you have successfully restored the backed up file.
